Dior and I

Sat, 18 May, 5:00pm $5

The film brings the viewer inside the storied world of the Christian Dior fashion house with a privileged, behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Raf Simons’ first haute couture collection as its new artistic director-a true labour of love created by a dedicated group of collaborators. Melding the everyday, pressure-filled components of fashion with mysterious echoes from the iconic brand’s past, the film is also a colourful homage to the seamstresses who serve Simons’ vision.

The film has an interesting angle as a contrast between and comparison of Raf and Christian Dior (as seen through a memoir Dior wrote about the beginning of his career as a designer). But the real magic is at the ground level. I was very invested in the people trying to make Raf’s impossible visions come to life.
