Awards i.a.: Best film, director BAFTA & Golden Globes; Best cinematography BAFTA & Oscars
The film grabs you with intensity from the first frame.
During World War I, two British soldiers — Lance Cpl. Schofield and Lance Cpl. Blake – receive seemingly impossible orders. In a race against time, they must cross over into enemy territory to deliver a message that could potentially save 1,600 of their fellow comrades – including Blake’s own brother.
I was anticipating a tedious war film. On every level this is not tedious at all. The film grabs you with intensity from the first frame. Genius filmmaking of following the characters and staying with the frame and story throughout. Obviously not one take, but so well done.
The music matches the mood perfectly. Calm, thoughtful, frightening, dreadful.
Wonderful full circle of storytelling with the mirrored end shots.
Profound, raw, honest, scary, fearful.
They say this has been done before. This has not been done before.
