There are very few action movies that cut to the chase quite as quickly as Speed and then have the stamina to keep it up for nearly two hours.
Los Angeles police officer Jack angers retired bomb squad member Howard Payne by foiling his attempt at taking hostages. In revenge, Payne arms a bus with a bomb that will explode if it drops below 50 miles per hour. With the help of spunky passenger Annie, Jack and his partner Harry try to save the people on the bus before the bomb goes off, while also trying to figure out how Payne is monitoring them.
It is the 25 year anniversary of Speed, the film that put Keanu on the map as an action star. Up until then, he was just the awesome surfer dude with a cool name. Fantastic non CGI stunts from one of the greatest stunt directors of all time, Jan de Bont. The flying bus alone is a feat to be seen, and something so very original at the time. A joy to see the beginning of Keanu.
